Have a question about Scentlok???
Q: Can I wash my Scent-Lok Suit?
A: Yes. You can wash Scent-Lok products but this is not a necessary step in the activation process. Washing does not harm the activated carbon but it may loosen some excess carbon. You only need to wash Scent-Lok clothing if it becomes extremely dirty or under extreme use in the field. Garments worn close to the skin or in hot weather will need to be washed more often. Machine wash on gentle cycle, cold water with non-scented sports wash or a carbon clothes wash approved by Scent-Lok such as Scent-Lok Premium Clothes Wash. Under normal use Scent-Lok clothing can be washed 1 to 2 times a season. Garments worn close to the skin may require more frequent washings.
Q: How long will my Scent-Lok suit last?
A: The lifespan of the product really depends on how you use it. We roughly say that it should last you 3-5 years; about what you would expect from other hunting camo. If you are a knee walking, belly crawling extreme hunter out there 5 months a year, the life span may be shorter. If you are in the field for 20-30 days a year and follow our instructions, 3-5 years can be expected. Some hunters are still wearing our original suit.
Q: How do I know when it is time to reactivate my Scent-Lok suit?
A: There is no set time for this. An estimated 30-40 hours of hunting time for new suits is a general guideline. When hunting in warm weather, with the suit directly next to your skin, the activated carbon may become saturated quicker than when hunting in cool, dry weather. The only true test of when reactivation becomes necessary is if you have been wearing the suit with good results and then you begin to be winded by your prey. Headcovers and storage bags need to be reactivated twice as often.
Q: How do I store my Scent-Lok suit?
A: Place your suit inside of a Scent-Lok storage bag, for maximum protection place inside a sealed plastic container i.e. Plastic Tote, which is puncture resistant and has a tight fitting lid.
Q: Should I treat my Scent-Lok suit with a U.V. blocker?
A: No. The vast majority of camouflage clothing currently produced, including all Scent-Lok products, is not made with dyes that are U.V. reflective.
Q: Should I use a scent cover product on my Scent-Lok suit?
A: No. The activated carbon will only adsorb the cover sent and diminish the suit's ability to adsorb your human odor. However, you should still use scent-eliminating products on your boots, stand, bow case, bow, anything going to the field with you, etc. Use attractant scents at your hunting sight or with your scent drag. Scent-Lok is an extremely effective tool in making you a better hunter.
Q: Can I alter my Scent-Lok suit for a better fit?
A: Yes. The activated carbon is bonded directly between two layers of cloth and will not fall out if you cut and sew the suit to fit you better.
Q: I've heard that the headcover is the most important part of the suit. Can I just wear the headcover and effectively control my scent?
A: The headcover may not be the most important part of the Scent-Lok System but it is a necessary and very important part of the three-piece Scent-Lok System. The head area generates over 1/3 of human odors. Hair, breath and facial oils all need scent-control. In order to control your scent properly and achieve the results it is imperative that you wear the three-piece system.
Q: How important are the gloves to the Scent-Lok System?
A: Gloves are ideal for not leaving scents when on the way to and from the stand, handling decoys and equipment or when touching brush and limbs.
Q: I'm having trouble finding my kisser button and shooting with the headcover on?
A: Our new designs enable you to pull the lower portion of the headcover down, allowing for easy kisser button and anchor point placement. Our advice is for you to practice shooting wearing the complete three-piece system until it becomes second nature.
Q: What should I do to control foot odors and odors from accessories?
A: We suggest using some of our licensee's Scent-Lok lined boots or rubber boots. Once in the field, pull your Scent-Lok (camo or green liner) over your boots. In order for your pant legs to adsorb escaping boot odors, always wear your pants over the outside of the boots. Boots, bow, quiver, arrows, backpackts, etc. should be sprayed well with a scent-eliminator. It is critical that the backpack be used to store other items and accessories that risk giving you away.
Q: What do I do if I am being winded in Scent-Lok?
A: Reactivate your Scent-Lok products, re-spray your accessories with scent eliminating spray such as Scent-Lok Boot and Accessory Spray or Robinson Labs Scent-Shield, wash boots if neccessary, always dress and undress in the field, never expose any of your products or gear to vehicle, home or camp smells. Keep the headcover on and over mouth and nose even during travel to and from your stand, especially the last 100 yards to and from your stand - change position - they may already be on to your current stand location.
Q: I notice Scent-Lok in more and more products and other odor-eliminating products on the market. Are all of these from A.L.S. Enterprises, Inc?
A: Now that we have refined the technology we are proudly licensing it to quality manufacturers who produce other products. Whenever you see "Scent-Lok Technologies" or "ScenTek" labels, you are assured that the products are officially approved under license by A.L.S Enterprises, Inc
Q: What happens if it rains when I'm wearing Scent-Lok?
A: The water will not affect the adsorptive abilities of the activated carbon. Scent-Lok will work equally well whether it is hot, cold, wet or dry.
